Bible Study – Luke 21:5-19

 

What is Jesus responding to in verse 6 and why does He respond this way? How do we fall into that same trap? Verses 1-5 What is Jesus saying regarding the admiration of the things of this world?

 

Why do we have the tendency to be awed by this world?

 

Is the Temple to share the same fate that Jesus said would happen to the whole city of Jerusalem? Luke 19:41-44 Explain.

 

Why does Jesus respond with a warning instead of direct answer in verse 8? Where else have we heard this warning? Jeremiah 14:14, 29:8; Ephesians 5:6; Colossians 2:8; 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4; 1 John 2:18

 

Two temptations that people fall into when talking about the end times are to set out to predict when it is going to happen or to be worried that it is going to happen at all. How does Jesus address this and do you fall into either of these categories?

 

What shift does Jesus make in verse 12? What does Jesus promise will happen?

 

What signs do we see in our society that show us were moving closer to this time?

 

Why was persecution a positive sign? What advantage will come?

 

Jesus says not to “meditate (prepare) beforehand” upon how we are to answer. Does this mean that we are not to study and have a defense for our faith when asked? Romans 12:1-2;  2 Timothy 2:15; 1 Peter 1:13.

 

If not, what does He mean and how does it relate to us?

 

Betrayal by friends, relatives, or anyone is hard, if not devastating. What example does Jesus present for us about how to handle betrayal like this?

 

How did Jesus’ warning in Verse 17 come true for the disciples?

 

How can the example of what Christ went through on earth help us during our own trials with betrayal?
