Psalm 22 – The Savior’s Cry

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

Why does it feel that Your love is so far from me?

Why has Your mercy and grace abandoned me?

Why have you forsaken me?

Why does it seem my cry is yet unheard?

Why in Your glory can I not be assured?

Why do I feel detached from Your Word?

Why is my cry still unheard?

You are enthroned forever the Holy One.

You are the Way and Truth for everyone.

You I cry to so that I might not be undone.

You are the Holy One.

I am a worm and no one should call me man.

I have been scorned and despised in every land.

I have been mocked and abused by mouth and hand.

No one should call me man.

From birth, dear Father, I have been cast as Yours.

From my mother’s womb I have been always Yours.

From far away it seems your gaze ignores

I have been cast as Yours.

They stare at my bones, they glare and gloat over me.

They split up my clothes and cast lots to see who’s they’ll be.

They pierce my side, my hands and then my feet.

They glare and gloat over me.

Dear father please help, come quickly and rescue me.

I summon Your mercy and grace for all to see.

I declare Your name, no greater will ever be.

Come quickly and rescue me.

Not my will but Yours, My vows will be fulfilled

The whole earth will know, for them I have been killed

May all of the earth show praise as you have willed

My vows will be fulfilled.
