Psalm 50 – The Judge

The Mighty One summons the earth shining forth perfect light

With fire and tempest He calls to heaven above and earth below

He judges His people to gather in the faithful with delight

The heavens declare the righteousness His judgments bestow

The Lord says, “Hear, O my people, and I will speak, I will testify against you.

I am God, your God. My rebukes are not for sacrifice sake.

I will not accept the bull or goat as an offering of something true

For every creature is mine. At my will they will obey.

If I were hungry I would tell you for the world is mine

Offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and perform your vows

Call upon me in the day of trouble and my ways will be kind

I will deliver you from trouble and before me you will bow

To the wicked God says, “What right have you to recite my statutes?

What right do you have to take my covenant on your lips?

For you hate discipline and you rebuke at the truth

You cast my words behind you. Your virtue flips

You give your mouth free rein for evil, and your tongue frames deceit

You speak slander against your brother, I will be silent no more

Those who forget their God, no longer will their names repeat

But for those who remember, salvation shall be yours.
